Commercial Aviation Management Program

The University of Western Ontario

CAREER OPPORTUNITIES

Recent market studies of the North American aviation industry are filled with encouraging news of expanding job opportunities for professionally trained pilots, especially those who have also earned a university degree.

The Commercial Aviation Management stream within Western's four-year Bachelor of Administrative and Commercial Studies (BACS) program will equip students with an extensive set of skills, preparing them for rewarding careers in airport and airline management, as well as employment as pilots for private or commercial airlines.

All students registered in the Commercial Aviation Management stream, regardless of whether they select the flight training option, will be enrolled in the BACS degree program. The BACS is a unique multidisciplinary program that introduces students to the key issues in administration and commerce within the context of the social sciences. You will learn a great deal about society and social interactions, gain a capacity for critical thinking, an ability to adapt to change, and strong problem-solving and communication skills. At the same time, you will study courses in accounting, finance, marketing, and operations management. Your Commercial Aviation Management academic program will be highlighted by senior-level courses in airline operation and management, and airport planning and management. Graduates will be well prepared to work as knowledgeable, skilled, and adaptable leaders within private and public sector business organizations generally, and within the area of airport and airline management specifically.

Commercial Aviation Management students who complete the flight training option will enjoy all of the benefits of the BACS degree, in addition to being licensed to fly commercial aircraft. Flight training will be conducted by professional flight instructors at Empire Aviation, located at London International Airport. Upon completion of their flight training, graduates will be qualified for entry-level positions as pilots in the North American aviation industry. Students will also have the option of earning a Class 4 Instructor's Rating, thereby opening the door to employment opportunities as flight instructors.

All graduates of the Commercial Aviation Management program, flyers and non-flyers alike, will be ideally situated to benefit from expanding career opportunities in the exciting aviation industry.
