The term "Paleo-Indian" means old or ancient Indians. They were the first humans
to occupy Ontario and the America's starting around 11,500 B.P. (Before Present) or
around 9,000 B.C. The Paleo-Indians were a band level society and lived in small camps
following and hunting the migrating caribou and other now-extinct mammals such as the
mammoth. For a more detailed description of Ontario Paleo-Indian sites see Dr. Chris Ellis's web page.
