Meet Our Students: Celebrating Success Stories – Tanvi Chada
By Diana CorredorIn this edition of Meet Our Students: Celebrating Success Stories, we highlight Tanvi Chada, a second-year Bachelor of Management and Organizational Studies (BMOS) student majoring in Finance, who is also pursuing her Ivey AEO status.
Chada’s academic journey began with a bold leap into the unknown. She remembers walking into Business 1220 with apprehension. “I’d heard all the intimidating stories: the demanding workload, the fast-paced environment, the pressure to perform—and I was questioning if I even belonged,” she recalls. But that course quickly became a turning point.
“What started as fear became one of the most eye-opening and influential learning experiences I’ve ever had,” Chada says. The class didn’t just teach her business fundamentals—it taught her to take risks, learn from failure, and thrive in uncertainty. “We built a culture of trust, openness, and collaboration. We made mistakes. We supported each other. And through it all, we grew.”
That supportive spirit is something Chada sees echoed throughout the Faculty of Social Science. From peers to professors, she has found a network of encouragement that helped her reach one of her biggest goals: securing a summer internship in the finance industry. After months of applications, networking, and guidance from upper-year students, she proudly accepted an offer from BMO as a Market Risk Analyst intern.
“The courses I took—Microeconomics, Macroeconomics, Accounting, Finance, Intro to HR, Consumer Behaviour, and Business 1220—were foundational,” she explains. “They didn’t just teach theory; they shaped how I approach real-world problems, work within a team, and make informed decisions.” She credits the practical skills and confidence she built in these courses for helping her succeed in a high-stakes professional environment.
Beyond the classroom, Chada has embraced student life with enthusiasm. As a member of Western Capital Markets and the Western Investment Club, she’s deepened her technical knowledge while connecting with like-minded peers. Weekly meetings and workshops introduced her to valuation methods, market analysis, and the kinds of roles available in the finance world.
And when it comes to balance, Chada has found that too. “Intramural volleyball played a huge role in helping me stay grounded,” she shares. A lifelong athlete, continuing with the sport at Western gave her a sense of community, joy, and resilience. “It reminded me that university isn’t just about academics. It’s about growing as a person.”
Reflecting on her journey so far, Chada emphasizes the importance of stepping outside your comfort zone. “My biggest piece of advice is to take risks—you never know where they might lead,” she says. “Reaching out to professors and peers felt daunting, but I did it because I knew it could help me grow. And it did.”
From the classroom to her internship at BMO, from student clubs to the volleyball court, Chada’s experience is a powerful reminder of what’s possible when you embrace uncertainty and lean into your ambitions.
