Meet Our Students: Celebrating Success Stories | Macayla Silver

By Diana Corredor
Macayla SilverIn our Meet Our Students: Celebrating Success Stories series, we proudly highlight exceptional individuals who embody leadership, curiosity, and the spirit of community at Western University. This edition features Macayla Silver, a second-year student in the BMOS – Honours Specialization in Accounting program.

Silver’s journey at Western reflects how academic excellence and community engagement go hand in hand. Through her studies in DAN Management, she has developed a strong foundation in business while exploring her passion for leadership and collaboration. “I have always enjoyed being a leader and have always had a passion for business,” she shares—a passion that has guided her through every opportunity she has embraced.

As a member of the Social Science Soph Team for the 2025–2026 academic year, Silver plays an important role in helping new students navigate their transition to university life. After completing intensive summer and fall training, she helped lead move-in initiatives, supported first-year students as they settled into campus life, and worked directly with more than a dozen students throughout the year to guide their academic transition. “It’s about making students feel at home and supported from day one,” she reflects. The experience also connected her with over a hundred fellow Sophs—like-minded peers who share her enthusiasm for mentorship and community building.

Beyond her Soph role, Silver is a dedicated member of the DAN Management Students’ Association (DMSA), where she has continually grown as a student leader. In her first year, she took a leap of faith and ran for Vice President of Events, a position she was elected to by her peers. During her term, she organized meaningful events such as internship panels, case competitions, and business workshops designed to empower fellow BMOS students. Her commitment to growth led her to take on a new challenge this year as Vice President of Internal Affairs, where she works to enhance communication, strengthen the association’s community, and foster connections among executive members. “Being part of a club that relates to your passions is one of the best things you can do at Western,” she says.

One of the defining moments of Silver’s academic journey was taking Business 1220E with instructor Lucas Cicchelli in her first year. The course not only challenged her but also transformed how she approaches problem-solving and teamwork. “It truly made such an impact on the way I think and learn,” she recalls. The lessons from that class continue to shape her approach to both academics and leadership.

When asked what advice she would give to other students, Silver emphasizes the importance of involvement and using the resources available on campus. “University is a time for personal growth and development—try new things, take risks, and make the most of the opportunities provided to you,” she encourages. From academic advising and career services to student clubs and community engagement, she believes every experience helps shape your journey and prepares you for what comes next.
