Message from the Associate Dean
Welcome to the Faculty of Social Science. I’m Marc Joanisse, the Associate Dean Research, and I’m proud to work alongside our faculty, students and staff in fostering a vibrant, collaborative research culture across all our departments, centres and programs.
Our vision is to be Canada’s leading Faculty of Social Science—where investigator-driven and interdisciplinary research can thrive, and curiosity drives innovation. We value foundational scholarship and work that spans traditional boundaries. That includes work with real-world impact: our faculty members are deeply engaged in projects that shape public policy, inform community practice, and expand our understanding of society.
The faculty’s Research Office comprises the Associate Dean Research as well as our Manager of Research Services Meli Limani and Research Officer Kelly Linton. Together we advise faculty on research matters, promote strategic growth in research activity and infrastructure, and help faculty secure external funding. We also work to build connections both within the university and with external partners, to advance our research aims at every level.
A key priority is integrating trainees into the heart of our research mission. From undergraduate research internships to graduate and postdoctoral fellowships, we’re committed to supporting students as active contributors to the research enterprise. Faculty play a central role in mentoring and guiding this next generation of scholars, and we’re continually developing new ways to support that partnership.
Together, we’re building a community that values excellence, inclusion, and intellectual curiosity. Whether you're teaching, researching, or learning, I invite you to take full advantage of the opportunities here, and help shape the future of social science.
Marc Joanisse, Ph.D.
Professor and Associate Dean of Research, Faculty of Social Science
