Meet Our Students: Celebrating Success Stories | Rogina Kazemian
In our Meet Our Students: Celebrating Success Stories series, we proudly highlight exceptional students whose journeys reflect the spirit of purpose-driven education at Western. This edition features Rogina Kazemian, a student in the BMOS – Honours Specialization in Management and Legal Studies, with a Minor in Gender, Sexuality, and Women’s Studies and a Certificate in Purpose Driven Leadership.
Having lived in Los Angeles, London, and British Columbia, Kazemian describes Western as the place that truly feels like home. “When I finished high school in BC, I knew I wanted to return to Western,” she shares. “The BMOS program stood out because of its strong reputation and the incredible opportunities it offers students.” Beyond academics, what drew her most to the Faculty of Social Science was its diversity and inclusivity. “My goal is to become a businesswoman who creates spaces where women of colour and individuals with fewer opportunities can thrive,” she adds. “The faculty’s values and community reflect the kind of leadership and impact I aspire to bring into the business world.”
Kazemian’s studies have been shaped by experiences that connect learning with purpose. One course, Transformational Leadership (4773A), has had a profound influence on her outlook. “Leadership isn’t something imposed from the outside—it’s developed and practiced from within,” she explains. Through this course, she’s learned the importance of humility, courage, transcendence, and justice—values that continue to shape her vision of ethical leadership. The course’s emphasis on daily reflection has also inspired her to align her actions with the purpose and integrity she hopes to embody in her future career.
Kazemian also encourages her peers to take advantage of the Faculty’s many opportunities for growth. “It’s easy to get caught up in coursework and overlook what’s available,” she admits. “From conventions, case competitions, and résumé workshops to co-op placements and scholarships, there’s so much support for students.” She credits these resources—particularly the Social Science Co-op Program, career fairs, and scholarship opportunities—as pivotal to her development both academically and professionally.
Outside the classroom, Kazemian has built a strong record of leadership and community engagement. Her involvement with Rotaract has been especially meaningful. After serving as Liaison Director and Camp Counsellor for the Juvenile Diabetes Camp, she now leads the club as President, overseeing record membership growth, multiple fundraisers, and ongoing volunteer initiatives. She also contributes as a Research Assistant at the Ivey Behavioural Lab, supporting consumer research, and explores her creative side through the Fashion, Life & Society Club and her own project, Western’s Best Dressed—a fashion account celebrating creativity and diversity on campus.
Among her proudest accomplishments are moments where she’s shared her voice and story. Kazemian won the first-ever Learn to Lead Speaking Competition with a speech about her Western experience and has presented twice at the GSWS Flaunting It! Conference, speaking about her identity as a Persian woman. These opportunities, she says, have strengthened her confidence as a storyteller and advocate for representation.
Kazemian’s story is one of passion, purpose, and perseverance—a reminder that leadership begins with authenticity and service to others. Her journey at Western embodies the Faculty of Social Science’s commitment to empowering students to grow, lead, and inspire.
