Our Workshops
Western’s Social Science is offering several summer workshops for faculty and researchers to learn about funding, applications, and research resources. These sessions provide practical guidance and support in growing research skills.
NSERC Discovery Grant Workshop
Date: Thursday, June 2, 2016
Time: 10am-11am
Location: 3M Centre Room 3250
NSERC Program Officer will present an overview of the peer review process, and advice will be given on how to prepare a Discovery Grant application.
The workshop will cover topics such as Discovery Grant Evaluation Groups, criteria for evaluation and ratings, tips on how to prepare an application. While the workshop will be most helpful to new faculty members and those preparing applications this fall, all researchers are welcome to attend. A question period will follow the presentation.
Banting Postdoctoral Fellowships Overview

The Banting Postdoctoral Fellowships program is jointly administered by Canada’s three federal granting agencies: the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR), the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council (NSERC), and the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC).

US Federal Funding Workshop

This workshop is designed to provide an overview of the US federal research funding opportunities available to Canadian researchers and institutions.
Topics covered will include information about federal funding sponsors, with some specific detail on the National Institutes of Health (NIH), including:

Finding and understanding the Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA)

Differences between Canadian and US federal funding processes, reviews, and requirements

Understanding different application types for National Institutes of Health (NIH) funding

How to read and interpret guidelines

Guidance on sponsor websites and systems

Processes and timelines for application preparation, submissions, and receipt of funding (including details on both sponsor and Western processes)

US federal compliance and regulations

Early Researcher Awards Round 12 Information Session

The Ontario Ministry of Research and Innovation has recently launched Round 12 of the Early Researcher Awards (ERA). The ERA program provides funding for outstanding new researchers to build their research teams. To prepare for this round, Research Development will be hosting an information session on the ERA program.

Perspectives from an ERA Review Panel led by Mark Daley
