Arranging Your Own Internship

We understand that students' academic and professional interests are varied, and encourage you to seek opportunities that align with your current and future goals. This could mean pursuing opportunities outside of what is available on Western Connect. Provided a student meets our Eligibility Criteria, we will review and consider internship offers received external to Western Connect. All students and their offers go through an assessment process by the SSIP team, and must be formally approved in order for a student to be enrolled in the internship course.

The internship fee is applied whether an opportunity is sourced inside or outside of Western Connect.

Long-term internships must meet the following program requirements:

  • 8 to 16 months in length (between May 2023 - August 2024)
  • Full time (32+ hours per week)
  • Paid position (minimum wage+) - Stipend or honorarium payments are not considered paid positions.
  • Professional level duties that align with your studies and career goals

Please complete THIS FORM to have your opportunity assessed for internship eligiblity.

Upon receipt of your completed form, the SSIP team will review, and confirm if the position can be counted as an academic internship.

Deadline to submit offers: ASAP, preferably at least one week prior to start date.

We do not retroactively assess students for the internship credit. Please submit your offer by the stated deadline above.
