Only students who satisfy the Social Science Co-op Program’s Eligibility Criteria will be approved and granted access to the Co-op Portal.

International students who meet the requirements to participate in the Social Science Co-op Program must secure a valid co-op work permit regardless of the timing and length of the co-op.

NOTE: Only students who are accepted into the Social Science Co-op Program will receive the necessary letter of support for their co-op work permit application. Applying without this documentation included may result in a rejection.

Once international students have received their letter of support from the Social Science Co-op team, they must apply for their co-op work permit online through the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) website.

We encourage students to submit their application by December 2025 for a Summer 2026 work term to avoid delays.

Western’s International Student Services (ISS) advisory team is available to help you in the application process! Please register for one of the workshops below, or email iss@uwo.ca to book an appointment with an International Student Advisor.
