Arranging Your Own Internship

We understand that students' academic and professional interests are varied, and encourage you to seek opportunities that align with your current and future goals. This could mean pursuing opportunities outside of what is available on Western Connect. Provided a student meets our Eligibility Criteria, we will review and consider internship offers received external to Western Connect. All students and their offers go through an assessment process by the Social Science Internship Program team, and must be formally approved in order for a student to be enrolled in the internship course.

The internship fee is applied whether an opportunity is sourced inside or outside of Western Connect.

All short-term internships must meet the following requirements:

  • 10-weeks to 4 months in length (Jan – Apr; May – Aug; Sep – Dec);
  • Full time (32+ hours per week);
  • Paid position (minimum wage+) - Stipend or honorarium payments are not considered paid.;
  • Professional level duties that align with your studies and career goals

Please complete THIS FORM to have your opportunity assessed for internship eligibility.

Upon receipt of your completed form, the Social Science Internship Program team will review and confirm if the position can be counted as an academic internship.

We do not retroactively assess students for the internship credit, so please submit your offer before your start date.
